Adam Audio recently unveiled their latest addition to their product lineup, the D3V desktop audio system. This new system consists of a pair of small two-way active loudspeakers that pack a punch in terms of features and performance.
The D3V speakers are equipped with a 1.5″ AMT tweeter, known as the ‘D-ART’ tweeter by the German company, which is paired with a 3.5″ long-throw mid/bass driver. To enhance the bass response, the speakers also include a pair of 3.5″ side-firing passive radiators. According to Adam Audio, the D3V delivers bass down to an impressive 48Hz (-3db).
One of the standout features of the D3V is its DSP-based crossover and user-switchable EQ settings. These settings are designed to optimize the sound quality based on the speaker’s placement in the room, whether it be in a corner, against a wall, or on a desktop. However, it’s important to note that DSP cannot fix issues related to a room’s reverb problems.
In terms of power, the D3V speakers are powered by four amplifiers housed inside the primary speaker. Each driver gets its own amplifier, with 70 Watts RMS dedicated to the mid/bass drivers and 30 Watts RMS for the tweeters. The primary speaker only needs to be connected to a power source, as it then sends the amplified signal to the secondary speaker via a 4-pole 2m interlink cable.
Connectivity options on the D3V are surprisingly robust for a speaker of its size. In addition to the traditional analogue inputs, the speakers also feature a USB-C input that directly connects to the internal DSP and DAC. This is particularly useful for users with limited desktop space. The front panel of the primary speaker includes a multi-function volume control and a 3.5mm headphone socket.
The D3V speakers come with built-in desktop stands that can be adjusted to tilt the speakers backward according to preference. Alternatively, the stands can be detached to accommodate floor stands, making the speakers suitable for smaller listening rooms. With a price tag of £290 or €329 per pair, the D3V offers great value for money and is available in black or white color options.
In terms of specifications, the D3V features a 3.5″ aluminum mid/bass driver paired with a 1.5″ D-ART ribbon tweeter. The amplifier power output is 2x 80 Watt Peak (2x 70 Watt RMS) for the woofer and 2x 40 Watt Peak (2x 30 Watt RMS) for the tweeter. The speakers also include double-sided passive radiators, a USB-C Plug & Play option, integrated AD converter, DSP-based room adaptation, and more.
Overall, the Adam Audio D3V desktop audio system offers a compelling combination of features, performance, and connectivity options at an affordable price point. Whether you’re a music enthusiast looking for a high-quality audio solution for your desktop setup or a casual listener in need of a versatile speaker system, the D3V is definitely worth considering.
