Transparent, a Stockholm-based audio brand known for its unique wireless speaker designs, has recently released its latest creation: the Brutalist Speaker. This speaker is a departure from the brand’s usual transparent aesthetic, drawing inspiration from Brutalist architecture with its simple geometric lines and raw materials.
Made from 70 percent postconsumer recycled aluminum, the Brutalist Speaker features a 6.5-inch side-mounted woofer and dual 3-inch tweeters set at striking 90-degree angles. Despite its minimalistic design, this speaker took three years to develop due to its larger acoustic volume and new cabinet material. The challenge of perfecting the sound quality while using recycled aluminum added to the complexity of the project.
In terms of specs, audiophiles will be pleased to know that the speaker supports hi-res audio up to 24-bit/192-kHz, AirPlay 2, Tidal Connect, Spotify Connect, and Bluetooth 5.2. Additionally, it has two 3.5-mm inputs for physical connections and is Alexa-compatible, although it lacks a built-in microphone. Priced at $4,000 (£3,200), the Brutalist Speaker is now available for purchase.
Creative director Per Brickstad explained that the brand’s name, Transparent, reflects its commitment to design honesty rather than its product’s see-through nature. While the Brutalist Speaker represents a departure from the brand’s signature look, Brickstad expressed interest in working further with recycled aluminum due to its precision, structural requirements, and sustainability.
The design philosophy behind the Brutalist Speaker stems from the brand’s exploration of new materials and shapes while staying true to its minimalist approach. Brickstad highlighted the challenges of sourcing recycled aluminum for production but emphasized the value of creating a premium object from waste material.
The Brutalist Speaker’s unique design, inspired by Brutalist architecture, offers a modern twist on traditional speaker aesthetics. With its focus on raw materials and geometric lines, this speaker stands out in the market as a bold statement piece that delivers high-quality sound. As Transparent continues to innovate and experiment with new materials, audiophiles can expect more boundary-pushing designs in the future.
