So, like, Duolingo was all like, “Hey, we’re gonna replace our contractors with AI and be all about that AI life,” according to some journalist named Brian Merchant. He was all, “Yo, the AI jobs crisis is totally happening right now, peeps.” And get this, Duolingo actually started this whole AI takeover thing a while back. They got rid of about 10% of their contractors at the end of 2023, and then did it again in October 2024. First, they ditched the translators, and then the writers, and now it’s all AI, all day.

And like, there was this report in The Atlantic that said recent college grads are having a rough time finding jobs. Could be ‘cause companies are all about that AI life and not hiring as many peeps. Or maybe they just don’t wanna spend the cash on new hires ‘cause they’re too busy investing in AI.

Merchant thinks this whole crisis is just a bunch of execs trying to save money and have more control over their companies. It’s showing up as less work for creative peeps, like artists, writers, and illustrators, and companies not hiring as many humans. It ain’t no robot apocalypse like in the movies, it’s more like DOGE firing a bunch of government workers and being all like, “AI is where it’s at, yo.”

So, yeah, the AI jobs crisis is real, peeps. And it’s not lookin’ so hot for us humans in the job market. But hey, maybe things will turn around. Who knows, right? Life’s crazy like that.
