Fitbit Integration on Android Phones: What to Expect

Recently, with the release of the Oppo Find X8 series, Fitbit has been noticed to come preloaded on the device as part of Google’s Android app suite. This integration of Fitbit into Android phones may become more common in the near future.

Typically, when you purchase a new Android phone, it comes with a range of pre-installed apps from Google such as Google Search, Chrome, Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, and more. Additionally, OEM versions of these apps may also be included, leading to duplicate options for similar functions.

However, during the setup of the Find X8 and X8 Pro, it was observed that these devices are the first non-Google Android phones to include the Fitbit application in the default “Google” app folder on the homescreen. Instead of Google Fit, which is not installed on the Find X8 series, Fitbit is now part of the pre-installed apps.

For years, Google Fit has been the go-to fitness tracking app on Android phones. With the acquisition of Fitbit by Google and the integration of Fitbit into the Pixel Watch lineup, it was expected that Fitbit would eventually replace Google Fit. Earlier this year, the Fit API was deprecated to make way for Fitbit to become the primary fitness tracking service for Android and Wear OS. Developers were given until June 30, 2025, to transition to Health Connect.

A Google spokesperson confirmed that the Fitbit app can now be added to the default package by OEMs, as it has been available to Android manufacturers since earlier this year to support the health and wellness of consumers. Despite this availability, it wasn’t until late 2024 that an Android OEM included Fitbit as the default fitness tracking application. This change may signal a trend towards more devices adopting Fitbit in the future.

In addition to the integration of Fitbit into Android phones, the Fitbit app has also received updates such as a foldable and tablet redesign on Android, the introduction of ‘Sleep Labs’ with daily journal and insights, as well as a redesign of the Weight stats page and preparation for ‘Sleep Lab’ and logging features.

As we look ahead, it is possible that more Android phones will come preloaded with the Fitbit app, even for users who do not restore from a previous device backup. This shift towards Fitbit as the default fitness tracking application on Android phones reflects the ongoing evolution of health and wellness technology in the mobile industry.
