Arturia recently introduced their latest synth plugin, Synthx V, which is a virtual emulation of the classic Elka Synthex polysynth. This new plugin is designed to recreate the key features of the original Synthex while also incorporating some exciting new elements.
The original Synthex, created in 1981 by Italian engineer Mario Maggi, was known for its stable and clean sound thanks to its use of DCOs instead of VCOs. It was also praised for its multitimbral design and onboard sequencer, making it a versatile tool for creating complex compositions.
In recent years, the Synthex has experienced a resurgence in popularity, with various hardware and software emulations being released by different companies. Arturia’s Synthx V aims to build upon this legacy by offering advanced sound design possibilities and enhancements to the original architecture.
One of the key features of Synthx V is its increased polyphony, now offering 16 voices split into two timbral layers. The plugin also includes additional filter modes, such as a 12db low-pass mode, and a three-mode analogue-emulated chorus for added sonic flexibility.
The Advanced panel of Synthx V introduces a four-slot effect section with 17 effects to choose from, similar to other Arturia synths like Pigments. It also provides modulator controls for further sound manipulation, including an ADSR envelope, customisable function generator, and random source.
A standout feature of Synthx V is the Multi-Arp, a modernised version of the original’s 4-track sequencer. This feature allows users to create unique arpeggiated patterns with detailed control over rhythm, notes, and randomisation options.
To streamline sound shaping, Synthx V offers four macro controls – Brightness, Timbre, Time, and Movement – for quick adjustments. The plugin comes with 240 presets to inspire creativity and exploration.
Synthx V is available for purchase at €199 and can be bought individually or as part of the V Collection bundle. For more information and to get your hands on this innovative synth plugin, visit the Arturia website.
With its blend of classic synth design and modern sound capabilities, Synthx V is sure to appeal to both seasoned producers and newcomers looking to enhance their sound design skills. Experience the best of both worlds with this latest offering from Arturia.
