The AI Hype Train is Leaving the Station Without Us

By PR Publisher Mar 7, 2026 5 min read

We’re All Gonna Die (of Boredom)

Look, I’ve been in this industry for 22 years. I’ve seen the rise and fall of so many tech trends it’s honestly exhausting. But this AI stuff? It’s different. It’s like everyone’s had 17 espressos and they’re screaming about it at a conference in Austin.

I remember sitting with this guy, let’s call him Marcus, at a diner on 3rd last Tuesday. He’s going on about how AI is gonna replace everything. I’m like, ‘Marcus, chill. It’s just code. It’s not gonna replace your soul, man.’

And he’s all, ‘No, you don’t get it, Linda. It’s gonna change everything.’

Which… yeah. Fair enough. But it’s not gonna happen overnight. And it’s not gonna be all rainbows and unicorns.

Let’s Talk About the Elephant in the Room

AI is kinda like that friend who shows up at your party uninvited and then proceeds to drink all your wine. It’s got potential, sure, but it’s also a bit of a mess.

I mean, have you seen the stuff that’s out there? It’s like a toddler trying to write a symphony. It’s got the basics down, but it’s missing the nuance. The soul, you know?

And don’t even get me started on the ethics. It’s like we’re all just kinda winging it. Nobody really knows what they’re doing. It’s like we’re all in a dark room, trying to assemble IKEA furniture with a rubber hammer.

I was talking to this colleague named Dave about three months ago. He’s all, ‘Linda, we gotta regulate this stuff.’

And I’m like, ‘Dave, we can’t even agree on what color the sky is. How are we gonna agree on regulations?’

It’s a mess. A completley mess.

But Here’s the Thing…

AI is gonna change stuff. It’s gonna change how we work, how we live, how we interact. It’s gonna change everything. And we gotta be ready for it.

But we also gotta be smart about it. We can’t just jump on the bandwagon because it’s the shiny new thing. We gotta think about the implications. The consequences. The stuff that’s gonna happen down the road.

And honestly, I’m not sure we’re doing that. I’m not sure we’re even capable of doing that.

I mean, look at the internet. We thought it was gonna be this great equalizer. And it is, in some ways. But it’s also a hot mess of misinformation and fake news and cat videos.

And AI? It’s gonna be a thousand times worse. Because it’s gonna be a thousand times more powerful.

So what do we do? I’m not sure. But we gotta do something. We can’t just sit back and let the hype train run us over.

I was at this panel discussion a few weeks ago. And this woman, let’s call her Sarah, she stands up and she’s all, ‘We gotta educate people. We gotta make sure they understand the technology.’

And I’m like, ‘Sarah, that’s great in theory. But in practice? It’s a lot harder than it sounds.’

I mean, look at us. We’re the experts. And even we’re struggling to keep up. How are we gonna explain this stuff to regular people?

It’s like trying to explain quantum physics to a goldfish. It’s just not gonna happen.

But we gotta try. Because if we don’t, we’re gonna be in a world of hurt. A world where AI is running the show and we’re all just along for the ride.

And that’s a future I’m not sure I want to live in.

So What’s the Answer?

I don’t know. Honestly, I don’t. But I think it starts with us. With the people who actually understand this stuff. We gotta start talking. We gotta start educating. We gotta start preparing.

And we gotta do it now. Because the train is leaving the station. And if we’re not on it, we’re gonna be left behind.

I was talking to my friend Jenny the other day. She’s a science journalist, writes for science research news latest. And she’s all, ‘Linda, you gotta write about this. You gotta make people understand.’

And I’m like, ‘Jenny, I’m trying. But it’s hard. It’s really hard.’

But maybe that’s the point. Maybe it’s supposed to be hard. Maybe that’s the only way we’re gonna get through to people. By making them uncomfortable. By making them think.

I don’t know. But I’m gonna try. Because someone’s gotta do it. And if it’s not me, who?

So here I am. Writing this article. Trying to make sense of the mess. Trying to make people understand.

And honestly, I’m not sure I’m succesfully. But I’m gonna keep trying. Because it’s important. Because it matters.

And because someone’s gotta do it.
