Valdosta Club Opens AT&T-Supported Learning Space for Youth
The Boys & Girls Clubs of South Georgia site features computers, internet service and educational activities, backed by a $50,000 contribution from AT&T.

Young people in Valdosta can use a new learning space at the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Georgia for schoolwork and educational activities. The AT&T Connected Learning Center began operating Sept. 3; AT&T says it is the first such center in Valdosta and its 10th in Georgia.
The space is designed for school assignments and career exploration, with practical activities in science, technology, engineering and math. AT&T gave the club $50,000 for programming.
Kristin Hanna, the club’s president and CEO, said the center’s technology and learning materials will be available to more than 1,000 children. Members can use the facility each day, and community members will have chances to take part during the year.
What the center offers
Equipment and services include AT&T Fiber and Wi-Fi, Dell computers, and The Achievery, AT&T’s online learning platform. Dell supplied computers equipped with audio and webcams, the company said.
Activities include robotics and construction projects, digital literacy classes created with the Public Library Association, and tutoring and mentoring by AT&T staff and community leaders. The club also intends to offer art activities and character development.
Why the club says access matters
Hanna said internet access can be difficult to secure for young people in rural areas. She noted that some students do assignments on phones or tablets, while the center’s larger computers can support homework and career exploration.
Hanna said AT&T brought funding, practical support and expertise to the initiative. She hopes the center will help young people develop skills, explore possible careers and gain confidence in their futures.
